COMPETITION RULES AND FORMAT
Be informed about the rules and format of competition being used in this year’s JKI. The JKIOC reserves the right to make changes to the rules and formats as needed.

SPARRING RULES
The JKI will be using modified USAT rules. Click for Info on USAT Rules
COLOR BELT (NON-DAEDO)
All color belt divisions will not be using Daedo PSS. Therefore, E-socks are not required. You must bring your own equipment including chest and head gear.
BLACK BELTS (DAEDO)
ALL black Belt divisions will be using Daedo PSS. E-socks are required. You will be able to use Daedo Gen1 or Gen2 E-socks.
DURATION
11 and younger color belts will be using 2-60 second rounds with 30 seconds rest.
12 and older color belts will use 2-90 second rounds with 30 seconds rest.
Black Belt divisions will use 3 rounds in the finals.
AWARDS
1 – Gold
1 – Silver
2 – Bronze
HEAD KICKS
There will be no head contact allowed for 11 and younger color belts and 7 and younger black belts.
All other divisions will be allowed light head contact using junior safety rules (JSR). Senior black belt s will be allowed moderate head contact. Full head contact is not necessary for local tournaments.
TRADITIONAL POOMSAE RULES
Traditional poomsae simply means that you will be given a choice of performing one poomsae from a range of acceptable poomsaes for your belt level. Check the table below.
FORMAT
Head-to-Head – means that two athletes will perform their poomsae at the same time and referees will select a winner between the two. The winner will move on to the next round. It is a single-elimination competition.
RED BELTS
Red Belts will have a modified sport poomsae format. All preliminary rounds will be conducted with Taegeuk 7 and the finals will be Taegeuk 8.
UNIFORMS
Traditional V-neck or Sport Poomsae Y-neck uniforms are permissible for poomsae competition.

2 – Bronze
SPORT POOMSAE RULES
Sport Poomsae will be conducted in a modified cut-off format. If there are 8 or more in a division, the semi-final round will be conducted to select 4 finalists. If 7 or less in a division, the division will go straight to finals.
FORMAT
Modified Cut-Off Format will be used.
